Introduction to Liberal Religion and the First Uninted Universal Church
Prepared by Rev Bravo Minister of
The First Uninted Universal Church is a creedless liberal church and a member of the Universalist Association.
Just explaining a few of the words in that sentence may offer a good introduction to this church, the Universalist Association, and this style of trying to be human religiously - which may be very different from all “traditional” churches in your experience.
Church
First, this is a church. That means that we are primarily concerned with how we should live, individually and collectively, so that we might become better people, partners, parents and citizens. We seek, in many different ways, for values worth living by - or to put it in theological language, for gods worth serving with our lives. Our minister’s sermons will explore our “ultimate concerns.” Let’s say it still another way. In economic terms, we will examine the different currencies by which life can be measured. You know many of these ways of measuring your worth: money, power, sex, popularity, cool cars, “in” looks, the approval of others, and so on. You have probably discovered that these “currencies,” though popular - they’re sold to you in every television commercial and most movies - are not ultimately very satisfying. You need more. There must be more. Any church worthy of the name, including this church, is dedicated to searching for that “more,” and making it clear enough for us to re-examine our lives and look for more ultimately satisfying currencies by which to measure them.
